Time Required to Serve Process
Allow at least three working days for service.
The Civil Process and Civil Proceeds Divisions handle 3,000 writs per month. Due to this volume pressure, process servers are on the street serving papers. Process servers and the process deputy sheriff carry between 20 and 40 active writs at any given time. Consequently, we do not have personnel waiting in the office for papers to arrive for service. Allowing at least three working days for service gives us a reasonable chance to effect service and is fair to the defendants and witnesses being served.
