Millard West LogoSchool Resource Officers (SRO)

A school resource officer must complete a forty hour course entitled Basic School Resource Officer Training. This training will equip the deputy with the skills needed to successfully interact with students, administrators, faculty and other school staff. The training will also outline how to prepare for crisis intervention and response. A background in teaching is beneficial for a deputy considering the SRO position. The SRO is a highly visible position and needs to be staffed with a person who, not only is enthusiastic in this role, but also always maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.

Currently the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has a SRO at Millard West High School. All of the deputies who have been involved in the program over the years have found it to be both rewarding and fulfilling. School officials have come to look upon the SRO as a valuable addition to their staff and the program as an integral part of a student's learning experience.
