4-10-06 Sheriff Conducts Domestic Violence Sweep
RELEASE DATE: April 8, 2006
Domestic Violence Sweep
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department and the Nebraska State Probation Office, will be conducting a Domestic Violence Warrant Sweep on Saturday, April 8, 2006, from 0600-1400. The Grant to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Order Program (G.E.A.P) funds the Warrant Sweep.
Domestic Violence Warrant Sweeps are conducted several times a year and are a coordinated effort between the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Omaha Police Department. There are normally 10-12 teams of two (2) Law Enforcement Officers, attempting approximately 80 warrants. These sweeps normally produce 18-25 arrests during the day, with 5-10 suspects turning themselves in later in the week because of information cards left at the suspect’s residence.
Sheriff Dunning will be conducting a post arrest conference at the Douglas County Law Enforcement Center, 3601 N. 156 St., on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 4 P.M.. We would ask that you not broadcast any information regarding the Sweep until the 4 PM Press Conference to eliminate the possibility of those Wanted going into hiding.
