The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will for the 12th
year straight participate in the “Click
It or Ticket” selective enforcement campaign in 2014. The enforcement focuses on safety belt and
child safety seat violations and will run from November 24th through November
30th. The mode of operation
will be selective traffic enforcement in locations determined to be high
traffic accident areas. This enforcement is funded through a Nebraska Office of
Highway Safety Grant.
Statistics prove that safety
belts and child safety seats save lives (statistics provided by the Nebraska
Office of Highway Safety).
In Nebraska, 211 people died and 16,083 were
injured in traffic crashes in 2013.
one collision occurs every 17 minutes.
Forty-four people were injured each day in motor
vehicle crashes and one person was killed every 42 hours.
Of the 211 traffic fatalities, 175 (83%) were occupants
of passenger vehicles.

the 2012 National Safety Council calculable costs of motor vehicle crashes.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death
among those ages 5-34.
The observed safety belt use rate in 2013 for drivers
and passengers was 79.1%.
Safety belts - when used - reduce the risk of fatal injury to
front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% and light truck occupants by 60%.

the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announces that citizens of Douglas County
may have their Child Safety Seats inspected free of charge at the Douglas
County Sheriff’s Office located at 3601
N. 156th Street. These
inspections are by appointment only
and may be scheduled by leaving a message for Sgt. Tucker Wheeler at 402-444-3554 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. This service is being provided free
of charge in hopes that all children can be transported safely and to save
