RELEASE DATE: May 2012 ANNUAL REPORT FROM The Office of Professional Standards The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) Standard 52.1.11 requires an annual statistical summary of internal affairs investigations. CALEA also requires that an annual statistical summary be provided to department employees. In 2011, the Office of Professional Standards investigated seventeen cases compared to seventeen cases in 2010 and fourteen cases in 2009. Of the seventeen cases, nine were externally generated (citizen complaints) and eight were internally generated. Sixteen of the complaints involved classified department employees (deputies) and one of the complaints/investigations involved civilian members of the department. One investigation involved two employees complaining on each other where the allegations were sustained for one and exonerated for the other. This is recorded below as .5 for sustained and .5 exonerated. 2011 Case Dispositions Sustained:                    5.5 Unfounded:                  0 Exonerated:                 11.5 Not Sustained:             0 Sustained on Policy:     0 The below percentage was factored by the total of all case dispositions per number of complaints (17). Case Disposition by Percentage Sustained:                    32.3% Unfounded:                     0% Exonerated:                 67.7% Not Sustained:                  0% Sustained on Policy:          0% In 2011, sustained complaints decreased to 32.3% compared to 35.29% in 2010 and 35.71 in 2009. Unfounded complaints decreased to 0% from 17.6% in 2010 and 7.14% in 2009. Exonerated complaints increased to 67.7% from 41.17% in 2010 and 57.14% in 2009. The complaints Sustained on Policy decreased to 0% from 5.8% in 2010 and 0% in 2009.   |
