The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) conducted DUI selective enforcement on St. Patrick’s Day 2010 (Wednesday, March 17, 2010).  The primary focus of the enforcement activity was to arrest drivers who were under the influence of alcohol.  The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS) provided a maximum of $1,800.00 grant funds for this enforcement effort.

During the St. Patrick’s Day selective enforcement, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office compiled the below listed statistics:

• 352 miles driven
• 13 Traffic stops
• 5 Traffic citations
• 4 verbal/written warnings
• 7 DUI arrests*
  • 4 Misdemeanor DUI arrests
  • 3 Felony DUI arrests / bookings
• 4 Misdemeanor citations
• 4 Misdemeanor bookings
  • DUI
  • Open Container
  • 2 Preliminary Breath Test Refusals
• 1 Citation for driving without proof of insurance
• 4 vehicles impounded

*One Felony DUI arrest occurred at 3:30 p.m., prior to the start of the grant-funded selective enforcement

We strongly encourage the citizens of Douglas County to drive safely and utilize safety belts and child safety seats, as they are proven to save lives. The DCSO has zero tolerance for drunk driving.
