The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) Standard 52.1.11 requires an annual statistical summary of internal affairs investigations. CALEA also requires that an annual statistical summary be provided to department employees. In 2009, the Office of Professional Standards investigated fourteen cases compared to fifteen in 2008. Of those cases, nine were externally generated (citizen complaints) and five were internally generated. The complaints/investigations involved thirteen classified department employees (deputies) and three civilian members of the department. 2009 Case Dispositions The below percentage was factored by the total of all case dispositions per number of complaints (14). Case Disposition by Percentage In 2009, sustained complaints decreased to 35.71% compared to 40.00% in 2008 and 43.75% in 2007. Unfounded complaints decreased to 7.14% in 2009 compared to 20% in 2008 and 12.5% in 2007. Exonerated complaints increased to 57.14% in 2009 compared to 20% in 2008 and 43.75% in 2007. |
