The public must come to the Sheriff's Office lobby, located at the southeast corner of the building, to request any of the services provided by the Sheriff's Office as those services are not available at the Correctional Center lobby.
The public will continue to use the Correctional Center lobby for all services or requests related to inmates at the Correctional Center. The new Court Services Bureau office will provide approximately 25% more space than the old Grain Exchange Building office, and will ensure adequate space for anticipated growth over the next 10-15 years.
The Sheriff's Office new space is part of a $10,000,000 project funded by the Douglas County Correctional Center Facilities Corporation Lease Revenue Bond approved by the Douglas County Board, September 2005.
The project also includes the renovation of the old National Parks Building at 1709 Jackson Street that will house Douglas County Community Corrections, Adult Drug Court, and Nebraska State Probation's Specialized Substance Abuse Supervision Unit.
The architectural firm for the project is HDR and the general contractor is Upland Construction Company.
