1-9-07 Office of Professional Standards 2006 Summary
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) Standard 52.1.11 requires an annual statistical summary of internal affairs investigations. CALEA also requires that an annual statistical summary be provided to department employees.
In 2006 the Office of Professional Standards investigated seventeen (17) cases. Of the seventeen (17), six cases were externally generated (citizen complaints) and eleven (11) were internally generated. A total of two (2) cases involved civilian members of the department. The remaining fifteen (15) cases involved classified department employees (Deputies).

In 2006, sustained complaints increased to 35% compared to 27% in 2005. The percentage increase was attributed to the decline in total cases investigated in comparison to 2005 when OPS investigated twenty-two (22) cases. Of those cases in 2005, six (6) cases were sustained.
