1-4-08 “You Drink & Drive, You Lose”
RELEASE DATE: 04 January 2008
During December 2007 and through New Years Day 2008, on eight (8) separate days, including New Years Eve and Day, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was involved in the statewide “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” Selective DUI Enforcement, in a coordinated effort to decrease the number of Drunk Drivers on the streets.
During the “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” selective enforcement, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office compiled the below listed statistic totals in various categories:
- 152 Traffic Stops were conducted
- Of those traffic stops, 46 traffic citations were issued
- 16 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests were conducted
- 51 warning citations were issued
- 13 misdemeanor arrests were made
Our goal with this selective enforcement, which we feel was successful, was to use saturated patrol to seek out suspected drunk drivers, who were then arrested and taken off the street. Therefore, the selective enforcement effort created safer streets for the citizens of Douglas County during the holiday season.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office strongly encourages the citizens of Douglas County to drive safely and utilize safety belts and child safety seats, as they are proven to save lives. The DCSO has zero tolerance for drunk driving.
PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY! SAFETY BELTS and CHILD SAFETY SEATS SAVE LIVES, SO PLEASE BUCKLE
