1-7-09 You Drink & Drive, You Lose

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) was involved in the statewide “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” campaign. The selective enforcement began December 5th and continued into January 2009, on a total of ten (10) separate dates. The primary focus of the campaign was to arrest drivers who were under the influence of alcohol. This was a joint effort involving several area law enforcement agencies. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS) provided grant funds this effort.
During the “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” selective enforcement, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office compiled the below listed statistic totals:
- 10 total traffic citations were issued
- 52 warning citations
- 2 Speeding citations
- 22 arrests for DWI/DUI
- 2 felony arrests for DWI/DUI
- 2 arrests for Minor in Possession of Alcohol
- 6 citations for driving under suspension
- 2 citations for driving without proof of insurance
- 4 drug-related arrests
- 32 total misdemeanor arrests
- 4 misdemeanor warrant arrests
- 8 vehicles impounded
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to making the streets of Douglas County safer for all drivers. We strongly encourage the citizens of Douglas County to drive safely and utilize safety belts and child safety seats, as they are proven to save lives. The DCSO has zero tolerance for drunk driving.
