The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) Standard 52.1.11 requires an annual statistical summary of internal affairs investigations. CALEA also requires that an annual statistical summary be provided to department employees. In 2008, the Office of Professional Standards investigated fifteen (15) cases compared to sixteen (16) in 2007. Of those cases, six (6) were externally generated (citizen complaints) and nine (9) were internally generated. The complaints/investigations involved fourteen (14) classified department employees (deputies) and seven (7) civilian members of the department.

In 2008, sustained complaints decreased to 40.00% compared to 43.75% in 2007 and 35% in 2006. Unfounded complaints increased to 20% in 2008 compared to 12.5% in 2007 and 30% in 2006. Exonerated complaints decreased to 40% in 2008 compared to 43.75% in 2007 and 15% in 2006.
