Sheriffs Office Accredited Again
Omaha, NE – Sheriff Timothy F. Dunning is pleased to announce that the Douglas County Sheriffs Office was re-accredited by the commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA).
On March 21st, 2009, CALEA confirmed that the Douglas County Sheriffs Office has successfully maintained compliance with over 400 rigorous standards of professional law enforcement excellence since their initial accreditation in 2006.
Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence that only a small percentage of law enforcement agencies are able to attain and maintain.
CALEA accreditation is good for a three year period, at which time verification is again conducted to ensure continued compliance with the Commission’s state-of-the art standards. From January 10th thru 14th, 2009, an exacting outside review team of specially trained law enforcement practitioners examined all aspects of the Douglas County Sheriffs Office policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
A summary of their review was subsequently forwarded to CALEA, who in turn conducted formal hearings at their March conference. Sheriff Dunning and members of the Sheriffs Office were lauded for their commitment to providing an excellent level of professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Douglas County as well as recognition for their regional leadership. Upon conclusion, the CALEA Commissioners unanimously voted to confer a second award for reaccreditation.
